Maddalena Fanconi

Maddalena Fanconi is a surface designer specialising in design, hand-crafted finishes and decorative paintings. Besides traditional, decorative painting techniques, Fanconi loves creating surface finishes. She constructs these beautifully intricate, textured skins for walls and panels made of plaster, metals, glaze, and wax. Such surfaces are inspired by natural texture. She says, “Clients that I work for are my inspiration.”

Maddalena trained at the School of Fine Arts in Italy, her motherland, and is now living and working in Manhattan, NY. Some of her noteworthy projects include the decorative painting of 200 columns in Florida’s ‘Le Palais Royal’, a speciality art operation commissioned for a penthouse on 56 Leonard Street in New York designed by Herzog & de Meuron and The State House in Montpelier where she worked on re-gilding The Dome.
