Ruth Hammond

Ruth is a freelance illustrator currently based in Nottingham, United Kingdom. She graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2015 with a first class degree with honours in illustration where she was also awarded the university prize in illustration.

Now, she enjoys spending her time in her little studio, illustrating children’s books, young adult literature and editorial work in the company of her two cats and big red dog. Her favourite media is mostly digital, creating her work in Procreate for the iPad Pro and Photoshop. She also enjoys painting traditionally in gouache, watercolour and coloured pencil.

Texture is an important part of her work, and she
often includes traditional elements and textures into her
digital illustrations.

Her inspiration comes from nature, fairy tales, her silly animals, and artists such as Jon Klassen, Joe Todd-Stanton, Tove Jansson and Benji Davies.

Past clients include Pearson Ltd., HarperCollins Publishers and Cats Protection.
