Mario Cossu

Mario Cossu’s artistic style is characterised by his hyper-realistic illustrations. Describing his work, he says, “my job is to draw in order to communicate a concept, an emotion, to entertain and bring pleasure with beautiful images.”

Mario’s career as a professional illustrator and comic book artist has enabled him to enjoy a successful career working with a range of household names across the publishing, advertising and consumer industries. His versatile style has led him to illustrate a number of books in genres ranging from children’s books to works by noted academics Prof. Duccio Demetrio and Prof. Mauro Porta. Mario is also an experienced teacher, instructing students on pictorial techniques at a number of academic institutions throughout his native home of Italy.

Mario is primarily a self-taught artist, though he was fortunate enough to study under Elica and Luce Balla (daughters of Giacomo Balla, one of the founders of Futurism). Mario uses a mixture of traditional and digital technique and favours using Corel Painter 2018.

Exhibiting his works since 1977, Mario’s art has been featured globally and recognised by a number of awards. A personal highlight was receiving an Honor Diploma for his solo exhibition in Rome, Italy at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in 2007.

Mario currently lives and works in Milan, Italy. He is available for agency representation.
