Phi-Yen Phan
Phi-Yen Phan is an illustrator and graphic designer from The Netherlands. She graduated in 2017 as an illustrator at the Academy of the Arts Utrecht. Her style is characterised by the use of simple forms, lines and popping colours.
She says, “Inspiration comes from everything around me. The crazy stories I hear from family or friends, the weird Internet life or my dual cultural upbringing.”
Phi-Yen favours using fine liners, watercolour paint and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create her illustrations. Her portfolio contains projects for a diverse range of prominent commercial clients within the publishing, entertainment, hospitality and retail industries.
Active in her local community, she has been a featured speaker at several industry events, including Pechakucha Night Utrecht and CrossComix Rotterdam.
She aims to help the viewer escape from daily reality by giving them the truth in a humorous package.
“By avoiding all the unnecessary details and focusing on the message, I try to make people smile with a touch of weirdness.”
